Cameroon forward Paul Emile slammed a hattrick as Sheikh Russel crushed Rahmatganj 4-0 at Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday to conclude their Manyavar Bangladesh Premier League campaign at second position, behind champions-elect Sheikh Jamal.
Sheikh Russel required a victory to confirm their runners-up place and Emile and Mithun Chowdhury ensured it for the former treble winners.
The Blues finished their premier league campaign with 42 points from 20 matches, six points behind Sheikh Jamal, who have played a game less. Rahmatganj on the other hand finished second-bottom with 14 points, ahead of the already-relegated Farashganj.
Mithun gave Sheikh Russel the lead in the 41st minute when he broke into the penalty area through the left flank before slotting past Rahmatganj goalkeeper Al Amin. Emile doubled the lead in the 57th minute as he headed home from a precise Zahid Hossain corner.
Emile netted his second – yet another header - five minutes later to put Sheikh Russel in a comfortable position. The Cameroonian completed his hat-trick in the 70th minute, firing home from the box following a Mithun cutback. It was Emile’s 10th league goal this season.
