Transport crisis adds to people's sufferings

People living in the capital have been suffering from public transport crisis following the ongoing drives against unfit vehicles and unlicensed drivers.

The drives are being conducted jointly by the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Consequently, people from all walks of life including schoolchildren and jobholders have been facing acute problem to move to their destinations timely.

Footage from different television stations showed that the commuters appeared waiting on different points of the capital in the morning for vehicles and many of them started journey to their workplace on foot owing to the unavailability of buses.

Many passengers alleged that CNG-run authorickshaw drivers and rickshaw pullers have been demanding more fare than usual amid appearing a demand increase in transport.

Recently, the BRTA and DMP have been carrying out the drives at Karwan Bazar, Airport, Arambagh and Mawa points, and the authorities said that the drive would continue without giving any unfit vehicles into consideration to ply there.
