Chittagong City Corporation Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin has stressed the need for launching city government system.
Nasir, also the general secretary of Awami League’s Chittagong city unit, came up with the call at a meet-the-press programme at National Press Club in Dhaka on Tuesday morning.
He also sought the prime minister's attention in this regard.
Nasir said: "I will request the prime minister for giving necessary directives to launch the system when I meet her next time."
Reiterating his vow to make Chittagong City Corporation free from corruption, the city mayor said: "None of the city corporation officials will be spared if anyone is found engaged in corruption."
He said influential persons kept the canals occupied in the city. "All the occupied water bodies will be freed from illegal grabbers."
He said the chief executive officer of the city corporation was working on the matter.
Nasir said he is working to intensify coordination among different government institutions like Wasa and CDA.
Chittagong Journalists Forum, Dhaka President Sayeed Islam Dilal presided over the programme.
