State Minister for Post and Telecommunication Tarana Halim put stress on a people-friendly telecom sector in Bangladesh to build a digital nation by 2021.
She urged the country’s mobile phone operators to make contribution towards reaching the goals.
Tarana was speaking at a views exchange meeting with the chief executive officers and representatives of the mobile phone operators at the ministry in Dhaka yesterday.
Post and Telecommunication Secretary M Faizur Rahman Chowdhury, BTRC Chairman Sunil Kanti Bose, Grameenphone CEO Rajeev Shethi, Robi CEO and Managing Director Supun Weerasinghe, Banglalink CEO Ziad Shatara, among others, were present. Representatives from Airtel Bangladesh, Citycell and Teletalk also attended the meeting.
Tarana Halim said the decisions about launching technology neutrality, mobile number portability system and revised telecommunication policy would be made after consultation with all the operators.
“I will take all the development initiatives in the telecom sector after discussing with the stakeholders,” she assured seeking cooperation from all to make her ministry free of corruption.
