Today marks the 85th birth anniversary of Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib, wife of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
On this day in 1930, she was born in a respectable Muslim family at Tungipara village of then Gopalganj sub-division in Faridpur district.
She was killed along with her husband and most of the family members at Dhanmondi 32 in the capital on August 15, 1975.
The Awami League, its associate bodies and other social-cultural organisations have chalked out programmes to mark Fazilatunnesa’s birth anniversary.
Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam in a press release yesterday urged all members of the party and its allies across the country to observe the day with due respect.
The programmes of Awami League include laying wreaths in Fazilatunnesa’s grave at Banani Graveyard at 8:30am, and milad and doa mahfil seeking eternal peace of her departed soul.
Dhaka City unit Awami League, Swechchhasebak League, Jubo League, Chhatra League, Mahila Awami League and others will also lay wreaths at the grave, and will arrange milad, doa mahfil and discussions.
