Police have arrested Hifazat-e Islam leader Mufti Izharul Islam in a murder case filed over grenade blasts at his Lalkhan Bazar Madrasa where three students were killed in October, 2013.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (DB) SM Tanveer Arafat of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) told Dhaka Tribune that the Hefazat leader was arrested near Lalkhan Bazar Madrasa around 2:45pm Friday.

"We had information that Izhar would come at his madrasa in the afternoon. Following the information, we were waiting for the Hefazat leader in the madrasa area and he was arrested as soon as he went there," said the official.
On March 2, 2014, a Chittagong court accepted the charge sheet against Hefazat Nayeb-e-Ameer Mufti Izhar, his son Harun Izhar and seven others.

The blast took place in a room of a dormitory of Al Jamiatul Ulum Al Islamia Madrasa in port city's Lalkhan Bazar on October 7, 2013.
Later police recovered three hand grenades, huge materials for making grenades and 18 bottles of picric acid used to amplify the magnitude of explosion.

Three cases including one for murder were lodged with Khulshi police.
Harun Izhar was arrested on October 9, 2013.
