A pregnant woman has allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan using a scarf at Sreepur upazila in Gazipur.
The deceased is Tushar, 27, wife of Mosharrof Hossain.
Police detained the husband of the woman for interrogation.
Uzzal Hossain, brother of the deceased, claimed that Mosharrof used to torture Tushar for dowry. "They engaged in altercation on Friday morning over family feud. At one stage, Mosharrof slapped my sister and then left for his office. Being upset, Tushar hanged herself from the ceiling fan."
Sreepur Model police station Sub-Inspector Habibur Rahman said police recovered Tushar's hanging body and sent it to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College for autopsy.
