Jahangirnagar University authorities have filed a case against a student under the Information and Communication Technology Act for making bad comments on the prime minister.
The case was filed against government and politics department student Shamsul Alam, also a resident student of Maulana Bhashani Hall, with Ashulia police on Wednesday night, in response to a complaint submitted by Chhatra League leaders.
JU unit Chhatra League Vice-President Al Amin Setu had written an article on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s “Oshomapto Attmojinoni” in a national daily while Organising Secretary Murshedur shared a link of the article on his Facebook timeline on Wednesday.
On that post, Shamsul commented with a fake account named Md Kabir Mamu in Bangla. He wrote: “Well written brother. I have read the book. But the problem is [Prime Minister] Sheikh Hasina is not such a good person that God’s message will come to her.”
Chhatra League leaders of Maulana Bhashani Hall sat in a meeting over the matter the same evening and found that the fake account belonged to Shamsul. Setu and Murshedur then caught Shamsul and handed him over to the university authorities along with a complaint.
