Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader has said CNG-run auto-rickshaws would be allowed to access CNG filling stations along highways all over the country for two hours a day.
He said: “The gas-run auto-rickshaws would be allowed to collect fuels from the CNG stations on the highway from 6am to 8am.”
The minister said this while he was visiting the ongoing project on upgrading the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in four lanes at Chowddahgram in Comilla on Thursday.
The auto-rickshaws cannot carry passenger when it will go for collecting fuels, he added.
All three-wheelers have been banned from plying the highways of the country since August 1 as they have been causing a number of highway accidents.
Since then drivers and owners of such three-wheelers have been protesting for removal of the ban.
The drivers-owners claim most of the CNG filling stations are adjacent to highways and asked how would they get the CNG for autorickshaws if they are not allowed on highways.
After hearing these claims, the minister made this new decision.
