A photo shot by Faisal Azim, from Chittagong, has placed second in the 2015 National Geographic Traveller Photo Contest.

The winners were announced on Tuesday from the nearly 18,000 global entrants, in the categories of Travel Portraits, Outdoor Scenes, Sense of Place, and Spontaneous Moments.

Azim’s shot, “Gravel Workmen,” depicts three gravel workmen at their workplace looking through a grimy glass window.

As a second-place winner, Azim will receive a six-day National Geographic Photo Expedition: Winter Wildlife in Yellowstone for two.

The grand prize winner, “Whale Whisperers,” was shot by Anuar Patjane Floriuk of Puebla, Mexico, depicting an underwater scene of divers swimming near a humpback whale and the third-place winner, “Camel Ardah,” was shot by Ahmed Al Toqi of Muscat, Oman.

Seven other photographs were selected as merit winners in the competition.

This is the 27th year the competition is being held. Both amateur and professional photographers are eligible to submit their photos.
