The government Wednesday fined a military housing project Tk50 lakh for not getting environmental clearance for the project, a press release said.
Department of Environment (DoE) Enforcement Director Md Alamgir issued the fine after a hearing held at his office.
The housing project named “Jolsiri” is located between Shitalaksha and Balu river at Rupgnaj in Narayanganj district.
It was penalised for running without having any environmental clearance, he said in the press release.
The government approved the project comprised of around 2000 acres of land last year, which is supposed to provide housing facility for 66,000 families.
The DoE said the project has changed the land formation of approximately 863.32 hectare of land by filling up waterbodies.
It also said that the project has not taken any measure to protect the environment.
