Two people were killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between a CNG-run auto rickshaw and a covered van on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar Highway at Patiya upazila in Chittagong yesterday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Moktar, 22, son of Nur Alam and Nayon, 13, son of Jahur Alam. Both of them were residents of Patiya upazila, said Chittagong Medical College Hospital police outpost’s Nayek Hamidur Rahman.
He said an auto rickshaw carrying five passengers collided head on with a covered van at Shantir Hat point around 2pm, leaving all critically injured.
The injured were taken to CMCH where on duty doctors declared Moktar and Nayon dead around 2:30pm. The bodies were sent to the CMCH morgue for autopsy.
Meanwhile, three pedestrians, including a couple, were killed while 15 passengers of a bus injured as the bus overturned on Dhaka-Rangpur highway at Fasitola in Gobindaganj upazila on Monday night.
The deceased were identified as Ismail Hossain, 40, son of Khoka Mian of Masta village of the upazila; his wife Tara Begum, 31; and Alim Miah, 40, son of late Kazem Uddin of the same village.
Locals said the Rangpur-bound bus of ‘Hanif Enterprise’ turned turtle as its driver lost control over the wheels while trying to overtake another bus of the same company on the highway about 9pm on Monday, leaving 18 people injured, including pedestrians Ismail, his wife Tara Begum and Kazem Uddin.
