Nupur Beje Jai is a dance choreography workshop, conducted by Smt Mamata Shankar, daughter of legendary dance maestro Sri Uday Shankar. The workshop started from August 4 at Shadhona Cultural Circle, Shilpakala Academy, which is a center for the advancement of South Asian culture. Shadhona, in collaboration with Bangladesh National Museum, is presenting a workshop showcase on August 8 at the museum. The event is open for all.
The showcase will commence at 7pm and will be followed by Bharatanatyam and Kathak recitals by students of Kolpotoru and Bharatanatyam. Other performances include Kathak and contemporary dance by Amit Chowdhury and Tahmina Anwar Anika.
Moreover, Shankar and other members of the West Bengal Dance Group Federation (WBDGF) will be conducting dance examinations at Kolpotoru, a dance academy and sister organization of Shadhona. This will be the third year that the WBDGF will be conducting exams. Held under the aegis of Kolpotoru, the exams are also conducted in Komolganj (Srimongol) where Shadhona runs Manipuri dance classes.
