Two people have been killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a covered van on Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar Highway at Patiya upazila in Chittagong.
The incident took place on the highway when the transport workers have been staging demonstration demanding to lift the countrywide ban on three-wheelers run and slow moving vehicles on highway that triggered also immense suffering to commuters.
The deceased were identified as Moktar, 22, son of Nur Alam and Nayon, 13, son of Jahur Alam. Both of them were hailing from Patiya upazila, said Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) police outpost’s Nayek Hamidur Rahman.
The injured, Ishak, 45, Md Ismail, 36 and Md Arafat, 36, were admitted at Ward no: 28 of CMCH, added Nayek Hamid.
Patiya Highway Police Outpost In-Charge (IC) Sergeant Safiqul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune the three wheelers-run auto-rickshaw carrying five passengers collided head on with a covered van at Shantir Hat point on Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar under the upazila at around 2pm on Tuesday, leaving five people critically injured.
The five were rescued and rushed to CMCH where the on duty doctors declared Moktar and Nayon dead at around 2:30pm.
The bodies were sent to CMCH morgue for autopsy, added Hamid.
