Three people have been killed and 15 others injured as a bus turned turtle in Phasitola-Masta area under Gabindaganj upazila in Gaibandha.
The deceased are Alim Mia, 40, of Masta village, Ismail Hossain, 40, and his wife Tara Begum, 28, of the same village.
Gabindaganj highway OC Anamul Hoque Prodhan said: “A Sylhet-bound bus of Hanif Enterprise turned turtle while overtaking another bus of the same enterprise hailed from Rangpur around 10pm Monday, injuring 18 people.”
He said: “Of the injured three were passersby. They died under treatment at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital early Tuesday.”
The OC said police seized the buses but the drivers and their helpers managed to flee the scene.
The injured are being treated at Gabindaganj Upazila Health Complex, he added.
