The new pay scale proposals would be placed before the cabinet this month, the finance minister has assured, adding that the finalised recommendations would appease all public servants.
The government employees have been wrongly worrying about the exclusion of time scale and selection grade, as suitable alternatives regarding promotions and annual increment would replace those provisions, AMA Muhith said yesterday after meeting with representatives from the Bangladesh Sarkari Karmachari Samannay Parishad (BSKSP).
Agreeing with the minister’s remarks, the delegation from the BSKSP also said they would be satisfied as long as the new pay scale’s proposals regarding promotion would stand.
BSKSP Chairman Md Hanif Bhuiyan, who led the ten-member delegation, urged the minister to reduce monetary discrimination between pay grades, suggesting that the difference between the lowest grades should be Tk1,000 instead of the proposed Tk200-300.
He further demanded that the total number of grades stand at 16 – as was originally recommended by the pay commission – and that the minimum salary be set at Tk10,000 instead of the proposed Tk8,250.
Commenting on the BSKSP demands, Muhith said he had read the proposals and would see what can be done about them.
On another note, Muhith also blasted the media for wrongly reporting on when the pay scale proposals would be placed before the cabinet. “I did not talk about placing the proposal before the cabinet meeting today (Monday); it [the news] was created by media.”
