TechnoSity to develop block-3 of hi-tech park

Bangladesh TechnoSity Limited is set to develop block-3 of the proposed hi-tech park located at Kaliakoir in Gazipur district.

Meanwhile, the government has decided to allocate the 3rd block of the park to Bangladesh TechnoSity Limited for expediting its construction and development works.

A deal is scheduled to be signed between Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority and Bangladesh TechnoSity Limited on August 11 in this connection. 

An official of Hi-Tech Park Authority stated that Bangladesh TechnoSity Limited along with IRIS Corporation Berhad – Technology Park, Malaysia would jointly develop the project.

Initially, Technosoft will invest US$25m for the construction works and if necessary, the investment might also be increasedby 10 to 12 times.

MoynulHoque, managing director of Fibre@home, parent company of TechnoSity, said, “We’ll bring the block in a shape for the investment within two years.”

“TechnoSity marketing team has already started discussion with the investors from 10 to 12 countries to attract them in Kaliakoir Hi-Tech Park,” said Moynul Hoque. 

“We are trying to expedite the development works of the Hi-Tech Park to attract foreign investment as soon as possible,” said HosneAra Begum, managing director of Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority.

Main objective of the Kaliakoir Hi-Tech Park is to create a knowledge-based skilled manpower and employment generation, attracting FDI, venture capital funds, nurturing entrepreneurs and supporting techno based start-up companies.

TechnoSity will develop 40 acres of land under the block no 3 on a design, build, finance, own, operate (DBFOOT) basis.

On June 28, the government had signed an agreement with Summit Technopolis to develop block No. 2 and 5, which span over 65 acres and 29 acres of land respectively. 

Kaliakoir Hi-Tech Park, the first ever in the country is located at Kaliakoirupazilla in Gazipur. It is only 40km north off Dhaka city with 232 acres of area.

An additional 100 acres of government land is under process for further inclusion with the Park. The park will be considered as specialised zone to attract investor especially foreign investors where they could utilise vast potential of young educated and technically skilled work force.

TechnoSity will develop its block-3 between 6 years to 10 years. They will operate the block for 40 years, which can be extended later by another 20 years. After 60 years, TechnoSity will handover the block to the government.   

TechnoSity’s target industries will be IT/ITES, BPO and software, hardware manufacturing, multimedia and animation, electronic and robotics, bio-tech, robotics engineering, telecommunication, renewable energy, auto-mobile, education and training institutes, venture capitalists and incubators.

Hi-Tech Park Authority offers 10 years tax holiday, exemption of income tax for expatriate professionals, 10 years accelerated depreciation permissible, exemption from import duties, 100% exemption of taxes for all exports, 100% equity is allowed for FDI companies, custom bonded area and single window agency.

As many as 70,000 employments will be create by the Hi-Tech Park while over one more lakh people will be employed indirectly.

The Hi-Tech Park will be equipped with available gas, electricity connection, high-speed internet and a separate power plant with capacity of 150 megawatt.
