Update : 03 Aug 2015, 12:22 PM

Finance minister AMA Muhith has said proposals of the new pay scale will be placed before cabinet within this month.

The minister made the statement after a meeting with leaders of the Bangladesh Sarkari Karmachari Samannay Parishad (BSKSP) for discussing the new pay scale.

Muhith also blasted the media for reporting that the new pay scale proposal to be placed in cabinet on Monday. "I did not talk about placing the proposal before cabinet meeting today (Monday) which was created by media”.

He said the leaders of Bangladesh Sarkari Karmachari have wrongly worried for dropping provision of the time scale and selection grade because a suitable provision of promotion and yearly increment would be in place instead of those provision.

Chairman of BSKSP Md Hanif Bhuiyan urged the finance minister to reduce the discrimination of monetary position between grades.

He said the difference between last grades should be Tk1000 instead of proposed Tk200 to 300.

He also demanded 16 grades and minimum salary at Tk10,000 instead of proposed Tk8,250.

According to the Finance Ministry’s estimate, an additional Tk12,212.29 crore – an increase of 59.5% - will be required to pay only the increased basic salaries of government employees.

On May 13, a secretary-level committee submitted its updated report to the finance minister on the government’s eighth pay revision.

The pay commission, headed by former Bangladesh Bank governor Mohammed Farashuddin, had originally proposed 16 grades under the new pay scale; but the secretary-level committee revised it to 20 grades.
