Medical students demand restoring carry-on system

Update : 01 Aug 2015, 08:50 PM

Medical students from different medical colleges have urged the government to reinstate the carry-on system in their professional examinations.

The system allows them to continue the classes in the next year despite being failed in last professional examinations. Medical students have to face three such sort of examinations to cross the MBBS benchmark.

They claimed that the withdrawal of carry-on method in professional examinations would create session jam in their academic life.

The students made the demand at a human chain organised by a student platform called Sommilito Medical College Students” in front of the Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka yesterday.

Addressing the programme, students said they would have to face year loss if they fail in any subject of a semester examination under the new system and they would have to prepare and sit for the exam again after six months.

It was learnt that the students can get promoted to the next semester even if they fail in a single subject in professional examinations under the carry-on system. In 2012, the government scrapped the system.

Apart from this, human chains were also formed at Chittagong Medical College, Kustia Medical College, Barishal Medical College, Rajshahi Medical College, Islami Bank Medical College in Rajshahi, Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College in Bogra, TMSS Medical College in Bogra, Diabetic Association Medical College in Faridpur, Faridpur Medical College, Khulna Medical College, Gazi Medical College in Khulna, Manikganj Medical College, Jamalpur Medical College, Jessore Medical College, Satkhira Medical College, and Pabna Medical Colege demanding restoration of the carry-on method.
