Police rescue 20, trafficker held

Detective branch of police have rescued 20-people from two hotels at Joypurhat who were trapped by traffickers gang.   

They also detained a man, Lablu Akand, a member of a trafficking gang.

Police said the 20-people were sent to Joypurhat by Sumon Hossain, who works at Dhaka counter of SI Paribahan, and Lablu arranged their stay at the hotels.

The rescued were hailed from Narsingdi and Gaibandha, were supposed to move Nepal through India in illegal procedures.

Manik, one of the rescued, said he was lured by a local man named Ramjan to go to the Himalayan country to work as a mason.

“Ramjan lives in Nepal, told me and two others that it would cost Tk75, 000 to go to Nepal and we could earn a lot of money there and direct us to contact his nephew, Jasim, a lemon vendor in Dhaka.

“It is Jasim who handed us to Sumon and then we gave him Tk 60, 000 in advance. Lablu contacted us after we arrived in Joypurhat,” Manik added.

Joypurhat Additional Police Super Belayet Hossain said police were tipped off about the location of the 20 people. 

He said two cases had been filed with Joypurhat Sadar police station in this connection.
