Two people have been killed as a CNG-run auto rickshaw plunged into a drain which was overflowed by tidal water in Agrabad-CNB area in Chittagong city on Friday.
The deceased are CNG-driver Mahbubur Rahaman, 35, son of Md Aziz Mia, hailing from Gaibandha and Firoz Khan, 55, son of late Hazi Ayub Ali Khan, hailing from Sherpur, said police sources.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nurul Alam Talukdar of Double Mooring police station said the incident took place around 12:30pm in CNB colony of Agrabad area.
The accident took place as the driver could not insight eight to 10 feet drain which labeled by tidal water and directly plunged into it while the driver and passenger drowned inside the CNG, said the OC.
Later, pedestrian rescued them and rushed them to Agrabad Maa O Shihu General Hospital where on duty doctors declared him dead, the OC added.
OC Nurul Alam said the duo could not able to come out from the vehicle as the gate of CNG was locked.
An unnatural death case was filed with Double Mooring police station in this regard, said the OC.
