The Cyclonic Storm "Komen" over the northeast bay and the adjoining Bangladesh coast is heading toward Barisal district, advancing along the coastal areas of Chittagong and Noakhali Districts.

Deputy Director of Chittagong Met office Santosh Chandra Matabbar told the Dhaka Tribune: “The cyclone is moving in a northerly direction and started crossing Chittagong and Noakhali coasts."

Earlier in the day, a met office bulletin said there are possibilities that the cyclone may let off steam with gusts of rain and become weaker upon landfall.

At 6pm on Thursday, it was centered about 50 kms southwest of Chittagong port, 105 kms northwest of Cox's Bazar port, 200 kms east-southeast of Mongla port and 125 kms southeast of Payra port.

Under the influence of the cyclone, squally weather is continuing over the north Bay, the adjoining coastal area of Bangladesh, and their islands and the maritime ports.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 54 kms of the cyclone centre is about 62 kph rising to 88 kph in gusts or squalls. The sea will remain very rough near the system centre, says the Met office.

The maritime ports of Chittagong and Cox’s Bazaar have been advised to keep hoisted danger signal no-seven.

The coastal districts of Cox's Bazar, Chittagong, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur, Bhola, and their offshore islands and chars will come under danger signal number seven.

Maritime ports of Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted danger signal number five.

The coastal districts of Borguna, Patuakhali, Barisal Pirozpur, Jhalokathi, Bagherhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their offshore islands and chars will come under danger signal number five.
