‘Jalaler Golpo’

The 19th edition of AVANCA International Film Festival in Portugal came to a close with the Best Film prize in the competition section was awarded to a Bangladeashi film “Jalaler Golpo.”

Directed by Abu Shahed Emon, the full-length feature chronicles a rootless boy who struggles to become a man of proper standing in society. The Best Actor award was also attributed to the film as Mosharraf Karim grabbed the honour.

Around hundred and twenty films from over a hundred countries were screened at the festival, which was held from July 22 to 26. Apart from “Jalaler Galpo,” three films including “After War Before War” from Czech Republic, “Bereave” from USA and “The Distance” from Spain won special mentions, while Irina Demikh of Czech Republic won the best actress award.

Starring Mosharraf Karim, Moushumi Hamid, Touqir Ahmed and Shormi Mala, the film also received Asian Cinema Fund at the 19th Busan Film festival earlier and premiered as the first Bangladeshi film at the festival’s New Currents section. At home, the film is yet to be released, although it has already recieved a censor clearance.
