At least five people from two families have been killed as incessant heavy downpour caused massive landslide in Dakkin Baharchhara Kabarstan area of the district town yesterday.

Besides, two people were rescued from the accident spot and they got admitted to the Sadar hospital in a critical condition.

Confirming the death Cox’s Bazar Fire Service Station Manager Abdul Mazid said Shah Alam was the president of district unit Bastohara League.

The official continued that heavy chunk of mud from a hill collapsed on at least four houses at dead of the night in Radar Station area owing to incessant rainfall over the last couple of days.

Being informed, members of army, police and three firefighting units rushed to the spot and started a rescue operation with the help of locals. They finally recovered five bodies from the spot.

However, they managed to rescue one Nurun Nabi after two-hour of frantic efforts.

Earlier, Geological Survey of Bangladesh floated a cautionary message of excessive rain-induced landslide and the local administration on Sunday directed the people living on the risky hill areas to move safe place. Many people did not pay any heed to the order and remained staying in their hilltop residents.
