Essayist Shantanu Kaiser has won this year’s Khan Mohammad Farabi Memorial Award.

He received the accolade at a programme arranged in memory of poet Khan Mohammad Farabi at Brahmanbaria Shilpakala Academy auditorium on Saturday.

Among others, noted poet Asad Chowdhury, researcher Sajedul Awal, Zahirul Haque Dulal, Piash Majid, Hasin Ara Kashem and Jabed Chowdhury Kayes addressed the programme, which was arranged by Brahmanbaria Sahitya Academy.

In his address, the president of the academy, poet Joydul Hossain, recalled the brilliance of Farabi, describing him as a luminary of poetry.

“Farabi died when he was very young, only 22 to be exact. But he succeeded in making a name for himself as a poet fast.

“One of his memorable works is the book ‘Mamar Biyer Borjatri’,” said Joydul.

Khan Mohammad Farabi Memorial Award was introduced in 2012 and Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed was the first to win it.

In 2013, poet Asad Chowdhury was given the award.
