Five people have been killed in a landslide in Hilltop Circuit House area in the district town of Cox’s Bazar.
The deceased were identified as Junu Begum, 30, wife of Khairul Amin, their seven-year-old daughter Neha, Shah Alam, 35, his wife Rokeya Begum, 25, and their niece Rina Akter, 17, said Cox’s Bazar Fire Service Station Manager Abdul Mazid.
Shah Alam was the president of Bastuhara League of Cox’s Bazar unit.
Landslides took place as heavy chunk of mud from a hill collapsed on at least four houses at 3am on Monday in the area due to incessant rainfall over the last couple of days, the official said.
On information, members of army, police and a firefighting unit rushed to the spot and started a rescue operation with the help of locals.
They recovered five bodies from the spot.
