Dealing with intrusive friends

Update : 26 Jul 2015, 11:07 AM

I am 32 year old man who ended a six year long relationship with M. In a city like Dhaka, everyone knew we were dating and we also had several common friends and circles. We are often invited to the same gathering and parties. Lot of people ask me why it's over and what happened. They just think it's their right to know what happened to my private life. I don't want to be rude, but they keep asking. What's the best way to let people know we're over and that I don't want to talk about it?

Six years is a long time and you can't help but feel like you owe people an explanation for your relationship. If telling people feels like a burden to you, it's best you get it out of the way as soon as possible. Tell your close circle of friends that it's over between you two. If they insist on knowing what happened, just tell them simply that you two had irreconcilable differences and you're not comfortable discussing it. That should ward off any overly curious friends. As for others, do not worry about others – this is Dhaka city after all, they will come to know it's over sooner or later. Don't let them bother you.
