Today is the historic Nazirpur Day, commemorating the supreme sacrifice of seven valiant freedom fighters in a “front battle” during the liberation war in 1971, at Nazirpur village under Kalmakanda upazila of the district.
On July 26, 1971, a front battle between the then Pakistani occupation armed forces and the freedom fighters was held where the occupation forces were defeated.
Seven valiant freedom fighters laid down their lives in the face to face fighting while the freedom fighters killed several dozens of Pakistani soldiers and caught some others.
The martyred seven freedom fighters were Dr Abdul Aziz, Mohammad Fazlul Haque, Mohammad Year Mahmud, Bhabotush Chnadra Das, Mohammad Nuruzzaman, Dijendra Chandra Biswas and Mohammad Jamaluddin.
The district administration, district Muktijoddha Sangsad and Kalmakanda upazila Muktizoddha Sangsad have jointly chalked out elaborate program to celebrate the day.
Commander of district Muktizoddha Sangsad Mohammad Nurul Amin said that the programme, include placing of floral wreaths at the Nazirpur war memorial monument and the monuments and graveyards of martyred freedom fighters at Lengura area, holding of Milad Mahfil at Lengura bazer Jam-e-mosque and discussion meeting at Lengura high school, said BSS.
Local Lawmaker Chabi Biswas, chairman of Bangladesh Muktizoddha Sangsad central command council Halal Murshed Khan (Bir Bikrom), deputy commissioner of Netrakona Dr. Torun Kanti Shikder and police super of Netrakona Joydeb Chowdhory will join the day’s program as the guest of honors, the commander Amin said adding that a large number of freedom fighters from greater Mymensingh region will also attend the program.
