The government has taken decision to ban the movement of CNG-run auto-rickshaws on highways with a view to reducing road accidents, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said.
The minister said this in a press briefing at his office at the secretariat on Wednesday afternoon.
He also said the authorities also decided to impose the obligation of keeping at least two drivers for every long route bus.
He has accused reckless driving behind the road accidents that claimed several dozens of lives during the Eid holiday.
Rejecting any fault with the road, he said it is the drivers who are responsible for those accidents.
The minister also added that the construction work of 75-km long four-lane highway from Joydevpur of Gazipur to Elenga of Tangail would begin in the next September.
