At least ten people including an SI and local Chhatra League leader have been injured as the kith and kin of patients run a massive vandalism at Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital on Tuesday.
The untoward incident took place around 12:30pm while the injured are Sadar police station SI Sohag and BCL leader named Ashraful Alam Tito.
Witness sources said a six-year-old boy named Niloy, son of Abul Kalam from Natai village, was brought to the emergency unit of the hospital with head injuries.
When the boy's family members did not find any physician and ambulance there, they started the vandalism in which about 50 dwellers from the village also joined worsening the situation.
Being informed, police rushed to the spot and fired about six rounds of rubber bullet to quell the desperate villagers.
At one stage, chase and counter-chase state erupted among the clashers and law enforcers, leaving the ten injured.
Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital's Residential Medical Officer (RMO) Abu Sayed said ambulance driver Humaiyan run away sensing a tense state there and it irked the family members of patients resulting the vandalism.
Necessary action would be taken against Humaiyan after investigation, the RMO continued.
Sadar police station OC Akul Chandra Biswas said the situation was calm and additional policemen were deployed on the hospital premises to prevent untoward incident further.
