A shoe-in from Schumer

Update : 20 Jul 2015, 07:18 PM

Seems like the Amy Schumer starrer Trainwreck is on its way to being a sleeper hit. The stand-up comedian teams up with some key figures in Hollywood, co-starring Bill Hader and letting Judd Apatow take the reigns behind the camera. However, the addition of NBA All-Star, LeBron James has been a pleasant surprise for audience in North America. The unusual one-two punch of Schumer and James is on the rise in being possibly the best comedy of the summer.

The R-rated comedy is Schumer’s debut in film, not to mention penning the script. The Universal released film has done much better than its expected $30.2 million. It did its biggest business in the major cities of New York City and Los Angeles, where she happens to be a media darling. In fact, eight of the 10 theaters happen to be in those two cities.

Amy Schumer plays a NYC journalist, whose dislike of monogamy is upended when she interviews and dates a sports doctor (Hader), whose best friend is LeBron James (who plays himself in the film). It’s natural to believe that because of James’ icon status more moviegoers are willing to buy a ticket to see the comedy. However, after initial showings, James puts on a wonderful supporting performance. Although, there are a couple of cameos that add to the entertainment many will be eager to watch. What you have is a rated R romantic comedy, that has garnered 66 percent of women in theatres, coming from a film that was only made for a modest $35 million. The numbers are sure to rise in the coming weeks.
