The massive fire that was broken out at a slum located opposite site of Lion Eye Hospital in the capital’s Madhya Badda, has been brought under control.
Major Shakil Newaz, acting director general of Fire Service and Civil Defense, told the Dhaka Tribune: "The firefighters brought the blaze under control around 5pm Monday after five hours frantic efforts. The extent of the damage is yet to be estimated."
Earlier in the day, the fire originated at a shanty of the slum around 12:55pm.
Being informed, 11 fire fighting units rushed to the spot to bring the fire under control.
No casualties were reported till filing the report at 5:30pm.
Local MP Rahmatullah visited the spot in the afternoon and promised the victims with easy bank loans.
