A two-storied building has collapsed after a fire broke out at a shoe factory of Akij Group, a leading conglomerate, in Ashulia.
Locals said the fire originated at the building of Akij Footwear Limited around 5:30pm Sunday.
Noticing the smoke, the locals informed the firefighters.
Three fire service units from DEPZ rushed in immediately and tried to douse the blaze, said Senior Station Officer of DEPZ Abdul Hamid.
“Later four more units of firefighters were called around 6:30pm as the first team failed to control the flame.”
He further said the firefighters remain at the scene and are fighting the fire from above as the entire building has collapsed.
The reason behind the fire could not be known immediately.
No causality was reported till filing the report at 7:30pm.
