16 killed in Sirajganj road crash

At least 16 people have been killed and 60 more injured in a head-on collision between two passenger buses at west side of Bangabandhu Bridge in Mulibari area under Sirajganj sadar upazila.

Bangabandhu Bridge west side police outpost OC Helal Uddin confirmed the deaths to the Dhaka Tribune. However, the identities of the decesed could not be known immediately.

Helal said: Rangpur-bound Sabbir Hossain Paribahan from Chittagong and Dhaka-bound Azad Paribahan from Gaibandha headed on collision in the area at 5am on Sunday, leaving 12 dead on the spot. Later, four more people succumbed to their injuries at hospital.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

On information, fire service, police rushed to the spot and conducted rescue operation.

The injured were admitted to Shahed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital in Bogra, Sirajganj Sadar Hospital, Abhisina clinic, Medinova clinic, Moin Uddin Memorial Hospital in the district.

Meanwhile, Sirajganj DC Billal Hosain, Police super Miraj Uddin Ahmed, Civil Surgeon Dr Devprada Roy visited the spot and Sirajganj Sadar hospital.

Conducted, DC Billal said District administration has formed a three-member committee to probe into the incident. The committee was asked to submit the report within three working days.

The administration will provide Tk10,000 to each family of the victims for carrying the body, the DC said.
