A man has died and another became badly sick after inhaling leaked Ammonia gas at a fish processing factory in Khaldar Road area in the district town.
The strong bad smell gas is crucial for fish processing system as well as making ice.
The sorrowful incident took place around 9am Tuesday that claimed the life of Akter Hossain, 45, from Kamalpur upazila of Satkhira district while Jessore Fire Service and Civil Defence Station Officer Mohammad Ibrahim got admitted to the district hospital with severe respiratory problem.
When contacted, Mosa Fish Processing Centre Managing Director Basir Uddin Ahmed Sagor said his unit's some workers including Akter entered Ammonia gas plant room to observe the situation.
At one stage, gas from the plant started leaking leaving Akter dead instantly while the rest left the spot promptly sensing the possible danger.
Being informed, fire fighters from local station rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. During the move, Ibrahim became sick after inhaling leaked gas.
Jessore Fire Service and Civil Defence Assistant Director Porimal Chandra Kumar said opening the compressor nut and bolt led the leakage of the liquid gas.
Kotwali police station SI Tuhinuzzaman said they recovered the body and sent it to Jessore 250-bed General Hospital for autopsy.
