Ashraf removed from LGRD ministry

Update : 09 Jul 2015, 10:54 AM

Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam has been removed from the ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) and Cooperatives.

Cabinet Division made the disclosure in a gazette notification published on Thursday.

Syed Ashraf will remain as a member of the cabinet without any portfolio, reads the gazette signed by Cabinet Secretary Muhammad Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan.

Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain is now in charge of the ministry.

A rumour spread over the country on Tuesday that Syed Ashraful Islam to be stripped off the charge of LGRD ministry. Ashraf, however, had asked the media not to entertain any rumour.

Syed Ashraful, son of first acting President of Bangladesh Syed Nazrul Islam in 1971, was appointed as LGRD minister twice in 2009 and 2014.
