Major General Amjad Khan Chowdhury, the pioneer of agro processing in Bangladesh and founder of PRAN-RFL Group, died at 7:15pm (local time) yesterday at the Duke Medical College of North Carolina, USA.
He was 76. Amjad had been suffering from cardiac disease and diabetes for long. He left behind his wife, two sons and two daughters.
After flying his body back to the country, he will be buried at Banani Military Graveyard.
The army person-turned-businessman started his business career in 1981.
He was educated at Dhaka and graduated from Australia Staff College. He joined the Pakistan Army in 1956. He held many important positions during his colorful life at Bangladesh Army. He retired from his post in 1981.
Amjad Khan Chowdhury had played a key role in private sector through creating jobs. His innovative efforts toward the country’s development brought a huge opportunity in business sector.
He served as presidents of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Dhaka Stock Exchange, Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) and Bangladesh Agro-Processors’ Association (BAPA) and Underprivileged Children’s Education Programme (UCEP), and ex-director of Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL).
Ahsan Khan Chowdhury, deputy managing director of PRAN-RFL Group, expressed deep condolence at the death of his father and sought dua to all walks of people of the country for his departed soul.
