For the fifth consecutive year, the National Board of Revenue is set to observe the National VAT Day tomorrow, aiming to create more awareness among people and businesses about paying VAT.
The board has already taken up a series of programme to mark the VAT week beginning Friday that will continue till July 16.
On July 10, the day’s programme will open with a parade that will start at 9am from the NBR headquarters at Shegunbagicha and conclude at the National Press Club.
State Minister for Finance MA Mannan will inaugurate the event.
On July 12, a discussion and award-giving ceremony will be hosted at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith will attend the programme as the chief guest while Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, prime minister’s economic adviser Moshiur Rahman, parliamentary standing committee Chairman on finance M Abdur Razzaq and Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Abdul Matlub Ahmed as special guests.
Nine highest VAT-paying companies will be honored on the national level while the rest will be awarded on district level under three categories – production, service and business.
The finance minister will hand over crests and certificates to top VAT-paying companies for their outstanding contributions to the government exchequer in the financial year 2013-14.
The other divisional headquarters will also hand over the crests and certificates to top VAT payers from district level through different programmes.
