Syed Humayun Kabir, the chairman of Renata Ltd and founder of SAJIDA Foundation, has died.
He was chairman and managing director of Pfizer Laboratories Ltd (Bangladesh), before becoming chairman of Renata Ltd, the successor to Pfizer’s Bangladesh operations. He was chairman of Renata for 21 years, until his passing.
Humayun Kabir served as chairman and president of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Bangladesh Employers Association, Foreign Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industries, American-Bangladesh Economic Forum and Transparency International, Bangladesh.
He has been a member of the board of several banks and an insurance company. He was a trustee of the Centre for Policy Dialogue.
He held board level associations with Brac since 1972 and served as the chairperson for over 20 years.
He leaves behind a legacy of grassroots development work carried out by SAJIDA Foundation which started out as a 25th wedding anniversary gift for his wife, Sajida Humayun Kabir.
The organisation was founded in 1993 and strongly focuses on empowering the mother in order to empower the family.
His namaz-e-janaza will be held on July 8 after zohr at the Azad Masjid in Gulshan, at 12:30pm at Brac Centre and at 10:30am at Renata Ltd.
