Robber ringleader killed in Ctg gunfight, 7 cops hurt

An alleged ringleader of robbers has been killed in a reported shootout with police in Bashbaria area of Sitakunda upazila.

Besides, seven policemen from Sitakunda police station got injured during the firing, police said.

The deceased is Najim Uddin, 35, son of Ishak Chowdhury, resident of Kottabazar of Uttar Bashbaria area of the upazila, says Sitakunda police station OC Iftekhar Hasan.

Later, police managed to arrest Nazim’s accomplice Md Didar, 25, with a pistol, an LG and ten rounds of bullet from the scene.

The injured policemen are SI Mizanur Rahaman, Rafiqul Islam Jaman, Dulal Hossen and Nayek Mozzamel Hossen; constables Yasin, Kamrul and Shahdat received primary treatment from local health complex.

Of them, SI Rafiqul sustained bullet injuries in his hand while the rest were injured during a scuffle with the robbers, says the police station's ASP Md Mohammed Saiful Islam.

The ASP went on that being tipped-off, police conducted a raid in Bashbaria area around 9pm on Monday while the robbers were taking preparation to commit robbery.

Sensing the presence of police, the robbers opened fire on the law enforcement personnel forcing them to retaliate triggering the gunfight, the ASP continued.

After the gunfight, police arrested bullet-hit Najim and his cohort Didar and Najim died in Chittagong Medical College Hospital before dawn.

Najim is accused in three cases booked with Sitakunda police station.
