Online shopping gains ground

Update : 06 Jul 2015, 07:46 PM

Online shopping is gaining popularity day by day among the youth in the port city of Chittagong, as Eid-ul-Fitr knocks at the door.

Famous brands and companies are using online shopping to digitally introduce their products to customers as online sales have seen an upsurge in comparison to average times.

Young people who want unusual, innovative and fashionable products, who wish to avoid hassles and not waste their time buying dresses or other products from the market are the primary customers, said online businessmen.

In addition, various brands have displayed their products, opening pages, on Facebook.

Nusrat Jebin Mou said: “I always shop online, where sellers provide me with their products through courier as per my demand.”

“I have done my Eid shopping from different Facebook pages in the last two years,” added Mou, who is a BBA student at International Islamic University, Chittagong.

Kamrul Islam Bappy, a student of the computer science and engineering department at University of Science and Technology Chittagong, said: “Entrepreneurs offer stylish, affordable products which I can buy anytime.”

Sheikh Md Jahid Alam, operation manager of Ctgshop.com, told the Dhaka Tribune that hits on the website were surging, and they were also getting huge response from customers on their Facebook page ahead of Eid.

“The customers, especially female, are ordering dresses ahead of Eid where they can pay us or deny us on seeing our products afterward.”

Ctgshop started its journey in January this year, with around 15 different retail shops and brands having joined with their products under the e-shop, said the entrepreneur.

“We offer all types of products, including medicine,” he said.

The Ctgshop gets 40 to 50 orders from buyers on average via daily phone calls.

Not only Ctgshop but also a number of Facebook shop pages, especially dress-makers, are now doing brisk business.

Sabrina Jahan Nansi, founder of the Facebook shop page “Aboron” which mainly sells gold jewelery for women, said: “I get 30 to 40 jewelery orders in a month and my products are imported from India.”

Sabira is also the founder chairman of Online Entrepreneurs Association. She opened Aboron’s page on Facebook in 2011.

“We will deliver our products not only in Chittagong but across the country.”
