Bangladesh police chief has termed BNP chief Khaleda Zia's comment over police role during the three-month long BNP's agitation as frustrating.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Islam suggested Khaleda to be ‘more responsible’ while making any statement.
“It’s very unfortunate when someone responsible person like Khaleda gave political statements in an effort to demolish police’s goodwill.”
He came up with the urge in a press briefing at Police Headquarters in Dhaka on Sunday afternoon.
He was speaking regarding measures taken by the police ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
He said Khaleda lied in her statement. People know who hurled petrol bombs and who responsible for the attacks.
He said more than 80 people died during their attacks. Many of the attackers got arrested and also confessed of their crimes in front of the courts.
“It’s clear like daylight who hurled petrol bombs and killed people in acts of arson,” he added.
During the agitation some 100 people were killed, mostly from firebombing on buses, when BNP-led alliance had enforced a countrywide blockade of rails, roads and waterways.
Speaking at an Iftar hosted by pro-BNP lawyers’ forum on Saturday, Khaleda said: “It was the police who hurled petrol bombs during our agitation. They had also set fire to buses.”
Khaleda has been accused of instigating the attacks in some of the cases over those incidents.
