Demu train service introduced on Ctg-Najirhat route

Bangladesh Railway yesterday introduced Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (Demu) train service on Chittagong-Najirjhat route.

Railway Minister Mujibul Haque formally launched the train service at Chittagong city Railway Station in the morning.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the government had earlier taken a plan to introduce commuter trains on different routes of the country to make the train journey easier and more comfortable for passengers as part of its plan to implement its ‘Vision 2021’. 

Railway Ministry’s Additional Secretary Kamol Krisna Bhattacharjee presided over the programme while Parliamentary Standing Committee on Railway Ministry’s President ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, lawmaker Mainuddin Khan Badal, Bangladesh Railway Director General Amzad Hossen and BR (East Zone) General Manager Mojammel Haque were present in the programme among others.

Under the project, around 22 kilometers rail line from Fateyabad to Najirhat station were rehabilitated and 25 bridge were re-built while another 22 bridges were partially repaired, said the BR officials.
