The government has asked the garment owners to pay the festival bonus by July 14 and salary of the month of June by July 10 ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.
State Minister for Labour Mujibul Haque Chunnu came up with the call while holding a meeting with the members of “Crisis Management Committee” on Thursday afternoon.
Representatives from Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) and Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMEA) attended the meeting.
The junior minister also urged the factory owners to allow vacation to the workers in phase.
In response, the BGMEA and the BKMEA delegation and representatives from several factories have assured that the workers would be paid the bonuses and salary in due time.
According to the calendar, the Eid holidays are expected to begin from July 17 (depending on sighting of the moon).
