Finance Minister AMA Muhith has Bangladesh will be getting the facilities of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) for next three years till it gets formal recognition as a lower-middle income country.
The minister made the remarks while talking to the reporters after a meeting Bhutan' Finance Minister Namgay Dorji at the ministry on Thursday afternoon.
The minister also expressed his satisfaction with the report of the World Bank that acknowledged Bangladesh as a lower-middle income.
He said: “We are satisfied with the World Bank report but there is an evaluation committee of the United Nations. They need to formally recognise us as a lower-middle income country and for this we have to wait three more years. Till then, we will be getting the facilities as a Least Developed Country."
Muhith also termed it a promotion for Bangladesh after staying in the list of the Least Developed Countries for 40 years.
The World Bank, in a press release on Wednesday, disclosed that Bangladesh improved its position from low-income category to lower-middle income this year.
The per capita income in Bangladesh rose from $1,190 to $1,314, according to Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
