The government yesterday declared around Tk11 crore as agricultural incentive for the farmers of seven districts in the north-eastern part of the country, known as haor region.
Under the incentives, rice trans-planter, reaper and training for farmers, mechanics and field-level agricultural extension officers will be provided for the next boro season.
The districts are Sunamganj, Netrokona, Kishoreganj, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Habiganj and Brahmanbaria.
Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury declared the incentive programme yesterday at a press briefing at her office. The newly-introduced agri-machinaries will be operated under the Integrated Pest Management clubs of the districts.
The proposed programme does not require additional fund. The incentives are being given under the “Agriculture Rehabilitation Assist” project allotted in the previous budget, she said.
Under the programme, 275 pieces of reaper will be given for each union and 100 pieces of rice trans-planter for three unions. In addition, around 1,000 farmers, 420 mechanics and 560 related filed-level officers will get training to operate the machineries.
Matia said that the programme would help increasing production since the technological inputs would reduce time of cultivation.
