17 firms asked to renew VSAT licence by 30 days

The telecommunication regulator has given 17 oragnisations one-month time to renew their VSAT licence with a warning that the licence will be cancelled permanently if they fail to do that.

By not renewing the licence in due time, the organisations have violated Telecommunication Act 2001, said BTRC.

According to a circular issued yesterday, the organisations whose very small aperture terminal licence has already expired will have to renew it within 30 days. 

Now, there are five VSAT providers with hub licensees, 12 VSAT provider licensees and 44 VSAT user licensees in Bangladesh. 

The 17 organisations identified by the BTRC as illegal VSAT operators by not renewing licence in due time include BUET project, Standard Chartered Bank (Dhaka-Kakrail), HSBC (Dhaka), Royal Danish Embassy, DHL Worldwide Express, Youngone Hi-Tech Sportwears Ind Ltd, Bangladesh Institute for Peace Support Operation Training (BIPSOT), Youngone Hi-Tech Sportwear Ind Ltd, Chars Livelihood Programme, Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Ltd, Golabacomm Systems & Solutions, Radiant Communications Ltd, X-ways Soft (Pvt) Ltd, Druti Network Ltd, Tracer Electrocom, New Skies Satellites BV and Sing Tel.
