Bandarban district administration has imposed a ban on the movement of tourists at Thanchi upazila.
Authorities took the decision at a meeting held at upazila parishad office yesterday. Local public representatives, government officials and official of law enforcement agencies attended the meeting.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Thanchi Md Anwar Hossain said the decision had been taken considering safety of tourists as water is following above danger level in the Sangu River.
“The restriction will begin on July 1 and continue till September 30” he said.
The hill town is situated on the bank of the Sangu River locally known as Songkho.
Due to recent downpour, communication between Bandarban town and two unions – Tindu and Remakkri – was snapped as the river water in the Sangu was swelled up and flowing above danger level.
