Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sought people’s cooperation in implementing the proposed budget for 2015-16 fiscal year.
“There is a 5% deficit in the budget. But there is nothing to worry about. We will be able to implement it. This budget will take the country forward,” she said while taking part in the budget discussion at parliament yesterday.
Hasina said people expect a lot from the Awami League and that is Awami League men have been working round the clock.
Regarding the stock market, the PM said: “There was a problem in the capital market. We addressed it in steps and solved it ... Sometimes attempts are made to play foul with the capital market, but we are ready and take steps immediately.”
Talking on the modernisation of the armed forced, she said: “Even the people of the armed forces, when they were in power, did not do as much as the Awami League has done for modernising the forces.”
On illegal migration, Hasina said: “When we came back to office in 2009, 8 lakh people in Saudi Arabi and 6.5 lakh in Malaysia were illegal. The Malaysian government was very annoyed with this over but we solved that problem in steps.
“We are raising awareness. But still, people are risking their lives. We have brought back several hundred people.”
Highlighting the steps that her government has taken to ease traffic congestion, Hasina said: “In the past, one family had one car. Now many have even three cars ... So, traffic jam will be there.”
Claiming that there is no session jam at the universities, the PM said her government has plans to establish varsities at every district.
Praising the Bangladesh cricket team for wining against India, Hasina said was very keen to be there in the gallery and hand the trophy over to the players but could not because she was ill.
