The proposed Vat a 4% online shopping has been withdrawn as the parliament yesterday passed the Finance Bill 2015.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith had proposed the VAT while placing the budget for the fiscal 2015-16 in parliament on June 4.
Uttam Kumar Paul, secretary general of Bangladesh Association of Software & Information services (BASIS) welcomed the decision.
Immediately after the proposal, BASIS had protested Vat imposition.
The BASIS secretary general said the government’s latest decision would help expand the e-commerce business and would expedite the ‘Vision 2021’ announced by the government.
